Ministry takes action after Ortaköy tragedy: Agricultural pesticides will now be sold by prescription
Following the poisoning incident in Ortaköy that led to the deaths of four members of the same family, the lack of oversight in chemical usage has returned to the agenda, and Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı has announced that agricultural pesticides will now be sold with a mandatory prescription.

The autopsy examination conducted after the Böcek family, who came to Turkey from Germany for a vacation, lost their lives due to poisoning in Ortaköy has been completed. The report stated that the primary cause of death was chemical poisoning, while the possibility of food poisoning was described as low.
CHEMICAL POISONING HIGHLIGHTED IN AUTOPSY REPORT
In the detailed investigation conducted after all family members lost their lives within a short period, it was noted that chemical-induced poisoning was the more likely cause. The report emphasized that poisoning potentially caused by food remained in the background.

In a statement made by Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı following the incident, it was announced that a new regulation regarding the use and sale of chemicals would be implemented. Yumaklı stated that the previously announced “plant prescription” system has now been made mandatory.
