Ministry to appeal sentences given to baby Sıla's killers

Following the atrocity in Tekirdağ, the sentences handed down to the defendants in the baby Sıla case have sparked public outcry. The Ministry of Family and Social Services, stating that it has been an intervening party in the case from the very beginning, announced that it will appeal on the grounds that the sentences are insufficient once the reasoned decision is published.

The Ministry will demand that all defendants and the children dragged into crime be sentenced "at the upper limit, without the application of discretionary reductions." Furthermore, it will initiate a legal process to ensure that the mother, B.Y., and the father of the defendant K.A., also named K.A., are sentenced for complicity in the "crime of intentional killing."

WHAT WAS THE COURT'S DECISION?

In the case regarding the death of baby Sıla, the court announced its verdict today.

Mother B.Y.: Sentenced to a total of 27 years and 9 months in prison for three separate crimes.

K.A. (child dragged into crime): Received a 20-year and 6-month prison sentence for two separate crimes.

G.K. (child dragged into crime): Sentenced to 7 years in prison.

Defendant K.A.'s father, K.A., and S.Ö., with whom the mother lived, were acquitted.

Following the court's decision, the Ministry of Family and Social Services emphasized that the sentences were insufficient and announced that it would file an appeal.

The Ministry of Family and Social Services will appeal the court's decision and make the following demands:

That the sentences given to the defendants be increased to the "upper limit" and "without the application of reductions."

That mother B.Y. and K.A.'s father, K.A., be tried for complicity in the "crime of intentional killing."

That the children dragged into crime also be punished in the most severe manner.
