Mithat Sinan Bolak, son of Ümit Boyner, detained in IMM investigation

Mithat Sinan Bolak, son of former TÜSİAD President Ümit Boyner, has been detained as part of an investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM).

An arrest warrant had been issued for Bolak, who was taken into custody at Istanbul Airport.

In the indictment, Bolak is accused of “receiving bribes through collusive contracts in exchange for IMM advertising permits and money laundering” while serving as the Manager of Planning and Organization at Kültür A.Ş.

Following the issuance of the arrest warrant, Bolak made the following statement to Nefes Gazetesi:

"It is out of the question for me to evade the judicial process or remain indifferent to the calls of judicial authorities. I understand that because I live abroad, my phone could not be reached and there was a disruption in the communication process. Due to this disruption, I have not yet been able to provide a statement.

My lawyers are closely following the matter at every stage. The date I was to arrive in the country to provide a defense had already been determined before the arrest warrant for the purpose of taking a statement was issued. I will be present in court to provide my statement as soon as possible, even by moving this date forward; there is not the slightest hesitation regarding this matter.

I kindly request the public to respect the legal process and the presumption of innocence.
