Money laundering investigation into Ekol TV continues: Case transferred to Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office
The money laundering investigation launched following the closure of Ekol TV has been transferred to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. There are 12 suspects in the investigation, including the channel's owner and executives.
The money laundering investigation launched against the owners and executives of Ekol TV following the channel's closure has been transferred from the Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
The investigation focuses on allegations that the channel was financed through illegal betting and money laundering traffic.
The investigation, which began following statements from a secret witness and reports received regarding the channel's financial activities, is steadily expanding. It has been requested that the channel's financial structure and money traffic be examined by MASAK (Financial Crimes Investigation Board).
The investigation focuses on allegations of "laundering assets derived from crime" and "financial irregularities."
12 PEOPLE AMONG THE SUSPECTS
Within the scope of the investigation into Ekol TV, businessman Mübariz Mansimov, the owner of the channel, and several other prominent names are listed as suspects. Other suspects involved in the investigation include Ekol TV Editor-in-Chief Emrah Doğru, former Gendarmerie General Commander Arif Çetin, lawyer Prof. Dr. Ersan Şen, and one of the channel's executives, Veysel Şahin.
The channel's owner, Mübariz Mansimov, was a name previously mentioned in the Yalıkavak Marina file brought to the agenda by Sedat Peker.
Mansimov, the owner of Palmali Holding, was arrested on July 15, 2020, on charges of membership in FETÖ, and was sentenced to 5 years in prison after spending one year in jail. However, he was released taking into account the time he spent in prison.
REPORT REQUESTED FROM MASAK
According to the news reported by Sabah newspaper, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has requested a comprehensive report from the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) regarding the channel's capital structure and money flow in order for the investigation to proceed more deeply.
