Public Prosecutor Muhammed Çağatay Kılıçarslan, who was serving at the Istanbul Anadolu Courthouse, visited Judge Aslı Kahraman of the 23rd Criminal Chamber in her office on January 13. Following an argument between the two, Kılıçarslan shot and wounded Kahraman. As the suspect attempted to fire a second time, Yakup K., a tea server and inmate at the Maltepe Open Penal Institution who was in the room, intervened.

TRIAL PROCESS REGARDING THE ATTACK HAS BEGUN

Due to the act against Judge Kahraman, who survived the attack with injuries, a lawsuit was filed against Kılıçarslan demanding a prison sentence ranging from 20 years and 2 months to 42 years and 3 months on charges of 'attempted intentional murder against a woman', 'violation of workplace immunity using force and threats', 'armed and chain threats', 'unlawful acquisition of personal data', and 'stalking'.

COURT DECIDES TO CONTINUE DETENTION

Defendant Kılıçarslan, Judge Kahraman, and the lawyers for both parties attended the first hearing of the case held at the Istanbul 35th High Criminal Court. The court panel ruled that the defendant's detention should continue. The hearing was adjourned to June 12 to allow for the completion of missing matters.

TENSION AFTER THE HEARING

Following the hearing, Kılıçarslan’s mother caused a scene in the courthouse building. Blaming the judge her son had wounded, the mother said, "Do you know how I raised him! He wasn't like that; that woman ruined my child! She turned his life upside down! She destroyed all his ethical values."
