Mother's Day commercial that sparked major backlash pulled from air: RTÜK launches investigation

The Mother's Day commercial released by Bosch Turkey under the title "A total mom story" has sparked controversy in the public eye. While the advertisement became a focal point of criticism, particularly on social media and in pro-government media, Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş also voiced her criticisms.

Minister Göktaş criticized the advertisement with the following statements: "Every woman who touches a child's life with love, raises, protects, and prepares them for the future—whether biological or foster—is a real mother. This bond is not only individual but also the foundation of social continuity. Every form of love is, of course, valuable. However, we do not accept the stretching and trivialization of a deep and foundational value like motherhood for the sake of communication strategies."

Following the pressure formed in the public eye, Bosch Turkey pulled the commercial film from all channels. While no detailed statement was made by the company regarding the matter, the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) also stepped in following the reactions.

RTÜK DECISION TO INVESTIGATE

RTÜK President Mehmet Daniş announced in a statement made via social media that an investigation had been launched regarding the commercial film. The RTÜK statement included the following: "As the Radio and Television Supreme Council, we importantly remind that we will not allow any erosion of values on screens through the concept of family under any circumstances, and we respectfully announce to the public that an investigation has been launched by our Supreme Council regarding the relevant commercial film."

The scope and duration of the investigation into the advertisement have not yet been clarified.
