In her testimony, Pınar Peyman Mersinli stated, "First and foremost, I am an educator as well as a mother. I am deeply saddened by what happened. The reports kept by the psychiatry clinic regarding my son's treatment process are accurate. This is proof of the level of responsibility we felt toward him."
Mother Mersinli denied allegations that she had refused treatment for her son and that she had not paid attention to the recommendations of psychologists and the school counselor, despite his need for medical support.
"IT IS RELATED TO MY HUSBAND BEING A POLICE CHIEF"
According to the report by Özgür Cebe from Nefes, the mother said regarding the weapons kept at home, "Keeping more than one weapon at home is entirely related to my husband being a police chief. However, these weapons were definitely not left out in the open where my son could easily reach them. They were kept inside a locked chest. He could only look at them and go shooting under his father's supervision."
WHAT DID THE CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE SAY?
In a statement made by the Kahramanmaraş Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the arrest of Pınar Peyman Mersinli, it was stated that the mother did not take into account the diagnoses and recommendations of child psychiatrists at the clinics where the attacker was taken on different dates before the incident, and it was noted as follows:
"All information and documents regarding the determination of the health problems of the perpetrator of the incident, İsa Aras Mersinli, which were reflected in the file, have been obtained from the relevant health institutions.
As a result of the examination of these documents, it has been determined that although two psychologists working in two different official and private institutions had diagnosed and recommended that İsa Aras Mersinli needed treatment at a child psychiatry clinic on dates prior to the incident, the mother, P.P.M., did not take the doctors' recommendations into account, did not apply to psychiatry clinics for the said medical support, and thus showed negligence in her responsibilities regarding the treatment of the psychological disorders that are considered to have caused the perpetrator to carry out the acts of death and injury.
In this direction, our Kahramanmaraş Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, taking into account the negligent act of the suspect P.P.M. in the concrete incident and the gravity of the consequences resulting from this negligence, referred her to the Duty Magistrate's Court with a request for her arrest.
As a result of the interrogation conducted by the Kahramanmaraş Duty Magistrate's Court, it was decided to arrest P.P.M., and the suspect was delivered to the penal institutions."
