Move by the Municipality following fatal incident: Stray dogs being collected in Fatih

Following the death of Ayhan Özçelik, who lost his life after being attacked by stray dogs in Fatih, the Fatih Municipality has begun collecting stray dogs in the area where the incident occurred.

In Fatih, an incident occurred yesterday morning around 06:00 on Sümbül Efendi Neighborhood Hisar Altı 1st Street, where 40-year-old Ayhan Özçelik was attacked by stray dogs on a vacant lot.

According to allegations, Özçelik was attacked by a group of stray dogs while out for a walk. Upon hearing the cries for help from Özçelik, who was injured in various parts of his body and his neck, cleaning workers affiliated with the Fatih Municipality who were in the area rushed to assist.

Police and medical teams arrived at the scene upon notification and performed the initial intervention. However, Ayhan Özçelik, who was taken to the hospital in critical condition, could not be saved despite all interventions.

STRAY DOGS HAVE BEGUN TO BE COLLECTED

Following the death of Ayhan Özçelik, teams affiliated with the Fatih Municipality began collecting the stray dogs on the private property where the incident took place after obtaining the necessary permits. In the area, where it is estimated that a total of 6 dogs are present, 2 dogs were captured using tranquilizer darts. The teams' efforts are ongoing.

DOGS SHOULD BE REHABILITATED

Reacting to the collection of stray dogs after the incident, Eylem Yüksekağaç stated, "Yes, there are aggressive dogs. As animal lovers, we have been voicing this situation for years. These dogs should be taken and rehabilitated. However, because of one aggressive dog, we are imprisoning millions of dogs. We do not know the outcome of this incident. I wish God's mercy upon the deceased. I want the incident to be investigated in detail."
