A chase straight out of a movie: Drunk truck driver in Çanakkale caught after turning into a dead-end street

In the Gelibolu district of Çanakkale, a truck driver who failed to comply with a traffic police stop signal fled the scene. Following a chase that resembled a movie scene, the driver was apprehended due to the close pursuit by police and gendarmerie teams. The driver, who tested at 0.48 promille alcohol, had his license suspended for 2 years and 2 months.

The incident occurred around 00:30 at the Gelibolu Regional Traffic Inspection Station checkpoint. At the checkpoint, police signaled for the truck with license plate 43 LD 444, driven by Ü.E., to enter the inspection area.

The truck driver did not comply with the police's stop signal and fled. Police teams began a pursuit to catch the driver. Gendarmerie teams also supported the police in the effort to apprehend the driver. Following a chase that could have been straight out of a movie, the driver ended up in a dead-end street in Beşyol village, located in the Eceabat district.

While teams were working to apprehend Ü.E., several gunshots were heard. The driver, Ü.E., who had abandoned the truck, was caught by police and gendarmerie while hiding in the grass in the village.

 

The truck driver, Ü.E., who admitted to being drunk, stated that he had already surrendered his license once before and fled to avoid losing it again.

During the check, the truck driver Ü.E. was found to have 0.48 promille alcohol in his system. While administrative fines were issued to the driver for various violations, his driver's license was suspended for 2 years and 2 months.
