Muğla Governor Akbıyık: 1,120 people evacuated to safe areas
As teams continue to battle a forest fire in the Milas district of Muğla throughout the night, Muğla Governor Dr. İdris Akbıyık arrived at the scene to receive information about the ongoing efforts. Governor Akbıyık announced that a hotel and a holiday complex were evacuated as a precaution, and approximately 1,120 people were transferred to safe areas.

Intensive efforts by teams are underway to combat a fire that broke out for unknown reasons in the evening in the forested area of the Kazıklı-Bozbük locality in the Gürçamlar neighborhood of Milas. While teams from the Muğla Regional Directorate of Forestry and the Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department are intervening in the fire from the ground, aerial vehicles also supported the efforts with sorties during daylight hours. With nightfall, extinguishing efforts are continuing from the ground.
Governor Akbıyık at the fire zone
Muğla Governor Dr. İdris Akbıyık, in a statement at the forest fire zone in Milas, said that a total of 6 forest fires broke out in Muğla during the day, 5 of which have been brought under control, and that teams are intervening intensively in the fire in Milas. Stating that after the fire was reported, institutions including the Regional Directorate of Forestry, AFAD, the gendarmerie, police, metropolitan fire department, Milas and Yatağan municipalities, thermal power plant teams, non-governmental organizations, and citizens joined the efforts in a spirit of mobilization, Akbıyık noted that the entire intervention is being carried out under the coordination of the Regional Directorate of Forestry.
Stating that the fire was intervened in from the air during daylight hours with 12 helicopters and 8 aircraft, Akbıyık said that 11 bulldozers, 70 fire trucks, 6 first-response vehicles, 29 water tankers, 40 support vehicles, 4 riot control vehicles (TOMA) belonging to the police and gendarmerie, 4 ambulances, and 517 personnel are on duty on the ground. Governor Akbıyık stated that a hotel and a holiday complex were evacuated as a precaution, and approximately 1,120 people were transferred to safe areas. Saying that the teams have taken the necessary precautions and are deployed at critical points, Akbıyık noted that the work is continuing without interruption.
Responding to a question regarding the cause of the fire, Akbıyık said that the cause has not yet been determined, that gendarmerie teams are conducting an investigation into the incident, and that they expect the cause to be identified as soon as possible.
