The official statement from the Ministry noted that the suspension is temporary. Here is the statement issued by the Ministry:

PRESS RELEASE REGARDING THE SUSPENSION OF THE ANTALYA METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY MAYOR BY THE MINISTRY OF INTERIOR

Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek has been suspended from office by the Ministry of Interior as a temporary measure in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law No. 5393, following his arrest by the Antalya 6th Criminal Court of Peace with the decision dated 05.07.2025 and inquiry number 2025/482, within the scope of an investigation conducted against him for the crime of "Bribery." Respectfully announced to the public. 07.07.2025

WHO WILL SERVE AS ACTING MAYOR IN PLACE OF MUHİTTİN BÖCEK

According to the law, in the event of a suspension, the Antalya Governorship is obligated to call the municipal council to an extraordinary meeting within 10 days. The management of the council will pass to the deputy mayor elected by the council, rather than the oldest member, as the status of the oldest member has lost its validity due to the completion of the organ elections. After the election process begins, the council will determine the new acting mayor through a secret ballot. The person who receives the most votes will occupy the mayoral seat until the mayor returns to office or until a new election is held.
