Müjdat Gezen hospitalized: Perran Kutman moved to tears

Master theater actor Müjdat Gezen was taken to the hospital for treatment after falling ill following an argument with an audience member during the Gırgıriye Musical. It was announced that Gezen is in good health and has been discharged. The performance was postponed for security reasons.

The 'Gırgıriye Musical', starring Müjdat Gezen, Perran Kutman, and Gülben Ergen, was the scene of controversy while being performed at the Istanbul Congress Center.

An audience member, claiming they could not see the stage clearly, climbed onto the stage and argued with Müjdat Gezen. Disturbed by the argument, Müjdat Gezen went on stage and personally told the audience that the play was canceled. Gezen stated, 'Since there are so many complaints, we are canceling tonight's performance.'

Immediately after Gezen left the stage, a statement from the team said, 'Unfortunately, due to this unpleasant incident, our master Müjdat Gezen has fallen ill. We must apologize to him and to you, and inform you that we cannot continue this play. The channels where you purchased tickets will contact you; we will host you again free of charge within this week. We thank you all.'

PERRAN KUTMAN CRIED

It was learned that master actress Perran Kutman cried backstage following the events.

Journalist Uğur Dündar posted on his social media account, 'They upset the great plane tree of our theater, Müjdat Gezen, very much this evening. The first intervention was made at the hospital. Hopefully, we will be in front of our audience with a full cast tomorrow evening.'

Gülben Ergen, one of the lead actors of the musical, also made a statement regarding Gezen's health, saying, 'We are discharging our dear Müjdat. I am writing this with his approval for all our viewers who are curious about his health. Tomorrow evening, we will all be on stage, back at our work.'

Reacting to the events, Ergen stated that it was the first time in her professional theater life that she had witnessed an audience member arguing with an actor on stage in this manner, adding, 'In all my years of professional life, this is the first time I have witnessed an audience member getting into an argument with an actor on stage during a play. Moreover, when the person in question is Müjdat Gezen, his feeling of discomfort is extremely understandable. What is even more striking is this: despite Müjdat Gezen trying to resolve the situation with courtesy by saying, "Let us host you in the front row tomorrow," the audience member in question persistently continued to shout. This disrespectful attitude was unfair not only to the artist on stage but also to the 3,500 people in the hall. Of course, this has a separate dimension. 'POSSIBILITY OF PROVOCATION IS BEING EVALUATED'

In a statement made on the official social media accounts of the Gırgıriye Musical, the details of the incident were included, and it was stated that the show was postponed to ensure security. The announcement included the following statements:

'During our theater play titled Gırgıriye, which was being performed at the Istanbul Congress Center on April 21 at 20:30, the stage order was disrupted when an audience member who stated that they could not see the stage clearly climbed onto the stage and entered into a direct argument with our esteemed artist Müjdat Gezen. During this unexpected and sad incident, Mr. Müjdat Gezen fell ill; following the developments, it was decided to postpone the play, considering the health status of our artist and in order to protect the safety of the audience.

The nature and timing of the intervention in question have brought up the possibility of a provocation beyond the disruption experienced during the organization process. Necessary evaluations regarding the subject are being made, and the process is being followed meticulously. The theater stage is a special space that exists on the basis of mutual respect and trust between the artist and the audience. The violation of these boundaries has negatively affected not only the flow on stage but also the experience of all our audience members in the hall. We apologize to all our viewers, especially our valued audience who were with us that evening; we respectfully inform you that information regarding the new date of the play will be shared with the public as soon as possible.'
