Murat Emir recalls Akın Gürlek's visit to Ekol TV: He posed 4 questions

An investigation has been launched into Ekol TV within the scope of money laundering allegations regarding its funding sources and ownership structure.

Following the money laundering investigation into Ekol TV, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir made a noteworthy post on his social media account.

Emphasizing that the ongoing investigation should not be viewed as the closure of an ordinary media organization, Emir argued that the process points to power relations, stating, "It is a document of the government being caught red-handed in the triangle of the judiciary, bureaucracy, and dirty capital!"

Emir also recalled the visit Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek previously made to the channel, claiming that this visit carried a message to the public. CHP's Emir also raised four separate questions regarding the content of the investigation.

Emir's statement is as follows:

"The Ekol TV investigation is not a simple story of a media company closing down; it is a document of the government being caught red-handed in the triangle of the judiciary, bureaucracy, and dirty capital!

First of all; we stand with all media workers who are crushed between these dirty gears, who are unaware of the bosses' games, who are only chasing their bread, and who have been left unemployed today.

Let's come to the behind-the-scenes of the government's fairy tale of 'We are fighting against money laundering'...

There is a fact that even the 'deaf sultan' knows. Allegations that gambling and betting baron Veysel Şahin was behind Ekol TV's capital structure had been rampant since the first day. However, despite this, the RTÜK license was obtained and broadcasting began.

The channel's first 'heavyweight' visitor was Akın Gürlek. He went to the channel on November 1, 2024, toured the control room, and exchanged gifts. It was obvious that a message was being sent.

Former Gendarmerie General Commander Arif Çetin joined the management of this channel as soon as he retired. But by a great coincidence, on the day the investigation started, Arif Çetin's board membership ended.

The Küçükçekmece Prosecutor's Office launched the investigation. The channel was closed in a rush. The company address was moved overnight from Küçükçekmece to Kağıthane through a shell game. The file moved from Küçükçekmece to the jurisdiction of the Çağlayan Courthouse, where Akın Gürlek, who had previously visited the channel himself, is the chief prosecutor.

Now I ask on behalf of our nation:

Why did the former RTÜK President push himself so hard during the channel's accreditation process? Was any benefit provided in return for this 'extraordinary effort'?

Was the investigation information leaked to Arif Çetin in advance, given that he resigned on the same day?

Why did a Chief Public Prosecutor visit a channel that had so many allegations against it?

Whose idea was it to close the channel, move its address to Kağıthane, and pull the file to Çağlayan, that is, to 'familiar waters'?"

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an inquiry was launched into businessman Mübariz Mansimov, Veysel Şahin, lawyer Ersan Şen, and Ekol TV Editor-in-Chief Emrah Doğru.

It was learned that the file addresses Ekol TV's financial movements, funding sources, and transactions regarding share transfers in detail, and that certain monetary processes are being specifically scrutinized.

It was stated that the prosecutor's office is comprehensively examining the entire partnership structure and financial connections of the channel since its establishment.

Ekol TV, which has been broadcasting for about two years, had announced that it decided to stop its broadcasting activities, citing the economic problems it has experienced recently.
