The People's Alliance Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) mayoral candidate Murat Kurum celebrated the January 10 Working Journalists' Day with members of the press following him at the Zeytinburnu Cultural Center.

Kurum, who arrived at the cultural center with AKP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Osman Nuri Kabaktepe and Zeytinburnu Mayor Ömer Arısoy, shook hands with the journalists.

Celebrating the January 10 Working Journalists' Day of the press members, Kurum chatted with them.

Recalling the journalists who lost their lives or were injured in Israel's attacks on Gaza, Kurum said, "We never accept such treatment being meted out to our journalists and cameramen on duty."

"SOMETIMES YOU ARE PUSHED, SOMETIMES YOU ARE BELITTLED, BUT..."

Expressing his wish for the situation in Gaza and the oppression against journalists to come to an end, Kurum continued as follows:

"The work you do is very sacred; I thank each and every one of you individually. In the rain, mud, snow, winter, and cold, with cameras and photo equipment weighing kilograms in your hands, perhaps sometimes you are pushed, sometimes you are belittled, but you are the crown on our heads. I want you to know this. You are the voice of the people, the eyes of the people. You are the people who will convey the most accurate information to our public. I congratulate you once again on World Journalists' Day. Hopefully, we will embark on a long journey. We will be with you on this long journey as well. We, too, will convey our projects and goals regarding ourselves, our dreams, and our Istanbul to our fellow Istanbulites through you."

Listening to the journalists' requests, Kurum later served salep to the press members along with Arısoy and Kabaktepe.

Kurum, who also took a commemorative photo with the press members, then left the center.
