Murat Ongun's statement regarding money and weapons found in his home: Accusation of 'spreading misinformation' against TRT
Murat Ongun, Chairman of the Board of Medya A.Ş. of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) and one of the individuals detained alongside IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, has issued a statement regarding the money and weapons allegedly seized at his home. Ongun stated that he had various foreign currencies worth 20,000 to 30,000 dollars in his home and possessed two rifles, both of which are licensed.

Following his detention and a police raid on his home, Ongun provided information regarding the images of money and weapons circulated by media outlets close to the government. Emphasizing that there was no illegally obtained money or unlicensed weapons in his home, Ongun argued that the images were published to 'create a perception.'
Ongun noted that previous investigations opened against him in past years, including MASAK (Financial Crimes Investigation Board) reviews, had yielded no negative results. Stating that the images were leaked to create a perception, Ongun announced that he would initiate legal proceedings regarding the slanders directed at him.
Addressing allegations of links to the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), Ongun described it as a 'serious security issue for the state that someone whose status as a FETÖ member has been repeatedly registered even by Sabah Newspaper reports could access images from a file under a confidentiality order.' Ongun stated that the leaking of such information to the media should be handled with seriousness.
Reporting that media outlets, particularly TRT, conveyed these images with false information, Ongun used the following expressions:
''It is a serious security issue for our state that someone whose status as a FETÖ member has been repeatedly registered even by Sabah Newspaper reports could access images from a file under a confidentiality order.
Because the money was spread out for the filming, it was intended to look like a large amount, similar to those that came out of shoeboxes in the past, but in reality, the total is various foreign currencies worth 20,000-30,000 dollars, and I have 2 rifles, both of which are licensed and have not been touched for 5 years. One of the rifles was left to me in the will of the late journalist Ufuk Güldemir, and I bought the other on the advice of a friend; it is clear that the images were leaked to certain press outlets entirely to create a perception.
My lawyers will file criminal complaints against all channels, especially the state television TRT, that shared the images leaked to them in an investigation with a confidentiality order, using false claims and insinuations.
Note: In the investigation opened against me in previous years due to being targeted by trolls, no results came out of all examinations, including the MASAK review. The legitimacy of all my income has been examined in detail and confirmed by state units.''
