Müsavat Dervişoğlu's response to Erdoğan on a 'new Constitution': 'It means saying, if you can't find bread, eat the Constitution'

İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu, addressed party members at a group meeting for the first time.

The 81 provincial chairmen of the İYİ Party came to Ankara to observe the meeting, where the newly elected Group Deputy Chairman Buğra Kavuncu took his place on the group board.

Dervişoğlu made statements regarding the constitutional debates and the murder of Sinan Ateş.

"I did not just take over a position, a podium, or a seat. I have received a flag.

HE CALLED ON THOSE WHO LEFT THE PARTY

I am addressing my fellow travelers who have struggled within our 7-year political movement and have since left the party: the İYİ Party is yours today just as it was yesterday. Let us put an end to the resentment and continue our struggle.

SHUT THE DOOR FIRMLY ON CONSTITUTIONAL DEBATES

The search for a new constitution does not address the burning problems and needs of the Turkish nation.

On the contrary, it is a desperate effort to supply and reinforce Mr. Erdoğan's political future and his demand to be a candidate again—in fact, to remain president until he dies.

While the inflation burning the nation's pockets cannot be stopped; while the pots in the homes of retirees, who are told to 'scrape by' on ten thousand lira a month, are not boiling; while the future of those told 'sorry, you will retire in seventeen years' simply because they started work one day after their peers is not even a subject of discussion; while civil servants and workers try to withdraw money from overdraft accounts to put bread on the table and pay the minimum balance of one credit card with another; while students struggle to survive on KYK scholarships; and while unemployed youth want to find an opportunity to flee to other countries, we are talking about a new Constitution. In a lawless country and an unjust order, saying 'a new Constitution' to a nation without bread is nothing but engaging in futility. And it simply means saying, 'If you cannot find bread, eat the Constitution.'

''THE İYİ PARTY WILL NOT TAKE PART IN THIS SCENARIO''

Now, once again, if a supporting actor is being sought for a constitutional amendment scenario to serve Erdoğan's personal political career, the İYİ Party will not be part of such a scenario. The Turkish nation will not be made a supporting actor for any personal ambition. Whoever meets with whom regarding constitutional amendment efforts, whether it is a visit or a return visit, it makes no difference. Even if their motives are purely transactional! If necessary, the İYİ Party will fight alone to the end against a new 'Erdoğan Constitution.' We do not even find any constitutional amendment proposal that would consolidate the one-man regime worth discussing. Our view on regulations that would pave the way for a parliamentary system is also clear.

Regarding the content of the new constitution, Mr. Erdoğan has said only one thing to date. He stated that they would make a constitution that 'takes the diversity of the nation as a reference.' Because Erdoğan, who is accustomed to deriving legitimacy from the de facto situations he creates, is concerned with finding a cover for the de facto illegal population he has filled the country with. We have seen this movie before; let the definition of the nation change, let the definition of Turkishness change, and the rest is well known...

We will never compromise on the Republic of Turkey founded by Atatürk,
nor on its founding principles! As a political party that stands on the side of a national and unitary state, we do not even see the need to discuss a new constitution project based on a freak concept like 'the diversity of the nation'.

THE SİNAN ATEŞ INDICTMENT 

The result of a 16-month investigation is a 146-page favor document. It is not an indictment, but a mud-stained document in our legal history. Let justice be served, even if the heavens fall! I was at the head of his coffin when Sinan Ateş was martyred. We say: either justice or the apocalypse!
