An unmanned aerial vehicle that entered Turkish airspace on December 15 was shot down by F-16 jets. Following this incident, CHP Spokesperson Zeynel Emre submitted a parliamentary question regarding the details of the event, requesting that Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler clarify the matter.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of National Defense, it was noted that an air track approaching Turkish airspace over the Black Sea was detected and placed under surveillance. Turkish F-16s tasked with the security of the airspace were dispatched to the region as part of an alert reaction mission. Following the incident, it was announced that the out-of-control UAV was shot down in an area outside of residential zones as it approached the skies over Ankara.
During the downing operation, civil aviation operations in the region were temporarily halted, and aircraft takeoffs and landings at Ankara Esenboğa Airport were suspended.
PARLIAMENTARY QUESTION FROM CHP
CHP Spokesperson Zeynel Emre brought the issue to the parliamentary agenda following the incident and directed questions to Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler. Emre emphasized that the public must be accurately informed following the downing of the UAV that entered Turkey's airspace without authorization.

Identification: Has it been determined which country or institution the downed UAV belongs to? If it has been identified, have any diplomatic or military initiatives been undertaken?
Possibility of provocation: Considering the increasing tension in the Black Sea, has the possibility of the incident being an attempt at "reconnaissance," "probing," or "provocation" been evaluated?
Security report: Have the current measures for the protection of Ankara's airspace and critical facilities in the city been reviewed?
Zeynel Emre stated that the answers to these questions are of great importance for Turkey's airspace security and national defense policies. Emre said, "Informing the public accurately will increase the effectiveness of measures to be taken when similar situations are encountered in the future."
STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY OF DEFENSE
In a statement following the incident, the Ministry of National Defense indicated that Turkish F-16s shot down the uncontrollably approaching UAV in an area outside of residential zones and that this intervention was carried out to prevent any negative consequences. The Ministry stated that airspace security in the region has been ensured following the incident and that there have been no diplomatic initiatives regarding the event.
