The family of Ali Diken, a motorcycle courier living in Konyaaltı, Antalya, who had been missing since December 20, had appeared on the Müge Anlı television program. During the search for Diken, it was stated on the program that Zeynel Boyacı, one of the last two friends he was seen with, might be connected to Diken's disappearance and that he was a suspect.
When it was revealed that the statements Boyacı made regarding Ali Diken, whom he claimed was his closest friend, were lies, Boyacı, who was at the center of suspicion, fled the hotel where he was staying. He was detained by Istanbul Public Security Branch teams while boarding a ferry in Yalova.
It was learned that Zeynel Boyacı initially told police, "He insulted me severely. I beat him to death and buried him." Zeynel Boyacı was taken into custody by the Antalya Murder Bureau teams and transported to Antalya.
