Naci Görür points to that region for a magnitude 7 or greater earthquake

Istanbul Technical University faculty member and geologist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür said, "Earthquakes have been occurring for 13 million years and will continue for millions more. Earthquakes do not stop, will not stop, and cannot be stopped. Let us make the country earthquake-resistant."

Görür delivered a lecture on "Earthquakes and earthquake-resistant settlement areas in Turkey" at the Çankaya University Academic Year Opening Ceremony.

Stating that there is insufficient earthquake awareness in Turkey and that the issue is not taken seriously, Görür said he has dedicated the rest of his life to explaining earthquakes to people.

Expressing that people attribute earthquakes to non-scientific causes, Görür explained that convection currents moving beneath the Earth's crust cause tectonic plates to move, resulting in earthquakes at plate boundaries.

HAARP CLAIMS

Prof. Dr. Görür stated, "Earthquakes occur due to the Earth's internal structure; what do they have to do with the moon, the sun, clouds, temperature, the HAARP ship, or American ships and planes? They have no connection."

Naci Görür reported that most earthquakes in Turkey occur on the North Anatolian Fault, and that this fault line is the most active and causes the most damage.

Stating that boundaries also change with the movement of plates, Görür said, "They ask, 'When will these earthquakes stop?' How are you going to change the Earth's plate structure so that earthquakes stop? Earthquakes have been occurring for 13 million years and will continue for millions more. Earthquakes do not stop, will not stop, and cannot be stopped. Let us make the country earthquake-resistant."

EMPHASIS ON EASTERN ANATOLIA

Prof. Dr. Görür explained that Eastern Anatolia is being compressed and shifting westward due to earthquakes.

Emphasizing that Eastern Anatolia is a true earthquake zone, Görür said, "This is no joke. There are many sources capable of producing earthquakes above magnitude 7. We cannot know when or which fault will rupture again, but when we open our eyes, a magnitude 7 or greater earthquake could occur in Eastern Anatolia, and we could lose thousands of our lives."

Prof. Dr. Naci Görür emphasized that an earthquake law and "micro-zonation" studies must be prepared, and that the law should have constitutional authority and be above partisan politics.

Describing micro-zonation studies, which aim to identify all hazards in existing or newly opened settlement areas, Görür said, "Someone who does not perform micro-zonation is, in a sense, like someone who never goes to the doctor their whole life and tries to monitor their own body and health based on their own assumptions. You cannot measure a city's characteristics, behavior, or response without conducting micro-zonation studies."

"6 COMPONENTS MUST BE MADE RESILIENT"

Stating that a city's management system consists of 6 systems: the public, infrastructure, building stock, ecosystem and environment, and the economy, Görür emphasized that these 6 components must be made resilient to make the city earthquake-resistant.

Emphasizing that earthquakes cannot be ignored, Görür said that the public must be educated about earthquakes.

Prof. Dr. Görür emphasized that an earthquake is definitely expected in the Marmara region, stating, "If an earthquake occurs in Marmara, I say this based on the Southeast. 100 million tons of rubble came out of the Southeast; a minimum of 150-200 million tons of rubble will come out of Istanbul."
