Naci Görür's warning: 'The real major disaster will happen then': 'It is possible to predict in advance'
Speaking at the "Earthquake-Resilient Cities" talk, geologist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür drew attention to the Bitlis-Zagros Fault Line. Görür stated, "This fault is a reverse fault. When it produces an earthquake, it is closer to Diyarbakır. Therefore, when it becomes active, that is when the real major disaster will occur."

Görür stated at the "Earthquake-Resilient Cities" talk, organized by the Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality at the Sezai Karakoç Culture and Congress Center, that he travels from city to city like a traveler trying to explain earthquakes.
Stating that he works to raise awareness about earthquakes and to inform people, Görür expressed that he came to Diyarbakır to deliver the right message.
"IT IS POSSIBLE TO PREDICT IN ADVANCE"
Noting that it is known that an earthquake will occur and where and how it will be affected, Görür said, "It is possible to predict this in advance. You cannot state the date, hour, and minute, but today's science and technology tell us where and how it will strike with what impact. This is our job. Therefore, let us take care of our country. Let our people not die. It is time to acquire this consciousness and culture."
Stating that the East Anatolian Fault is not the fault that poses the real danger for Diyarbakır, Görür reported that the fault passes through Elazığ, Bingöl, Malatya, Adıyaman, Kahramanmaraş, and Hatay.
Görür continued his speech as follows:
"LIKE HUNDREDS OF ATOMIC BOMBS"
"It has nothing to do with Diyarbakır. But as it shakes, it hits you too. You suffer the damage of your neighbor. An earthquake occurred in the Aegean Sea and Greece, buildings collapsed in İzmir, and people died. The dangerous one for Diyarbakır is the Bitlis-Zagros Fault Line. This fault is a reverse fault. When it produces an earthquake, it is closer to Diyarbakır. Therefore, when it becomes active, that is when the real major disaster will occur. Do not ask when it will become active. Because I do not know. Will it definitely become active? Yes, it will. But I do not know when. If you do not make Diyarbakır earthquake-resilient, it will definitely cause damage when it becomes active. The earthquakes on February 6 produced energy equivalent to the simultaneous explosion of exactly 5 million tons of dynamite. Think about the energy released if you explode 5 million tons of dynamite. It is like hundreds of atomic bombs. When an earthquake occurs, these systems produce enormous energy."
"IF THESE FAULTS BECOME ACTIVE, AN EARTHQUAKE WILL OCCUR"
Noting that after an earthquake occurs in a certain place, another earthquake of the same magnitude can occur in the same location after a certain period of time, Görür said, "Therefore, there will be an earthquake in Diyarbakır; it will not be right in the heart of the city, but it will occur 50-150 kilometers to the north. There are small-scale faults in the city. If these faults become active, an earthquake will occur."
