Geoscientist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür, in his assessment regarding the 5.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Aegean Sea this morning, stated, "The earthquake is near the northern edge and is likely on a normal fault."
Stating that the Gulf of Kuşadası is bounded by normal faults along its northern and southern borders, Görür pointed out that the earthquake occurred on this fault.
