Testimony of Narin Güran's arrested uncle revealed: 'I will make you suffer such pain'

S. G., the uncle of Narin Güran—who went missing on August 21 in the Bağlar district of Diyarbakır and has been the subject of search efforts for 13 days—and who also serves as the headman (muhtar) of Tavşantepe Neighborhood, was taken into custody as part of the investigation. Following his processing at the Gendarmerie, he was referred to the Diyarbakır Courthouse today and subsequently sent to court with a request for his arrest following his interrogation by the prosecutor.

In Diyarbakır, while search efforts for 8-year-old Narin Güran, who has not been heard from since leaving a Quran course, continue on their 13th day, her uncle S.G., who was taken into custody as part of the investigation, was arrested by the court and sent to prison.

Details of the testimony given by the arrested uncle to the Gendarmerie on September 2 have been obtained. According to the report by Alican Uludağ from DW Türkçe, S. G. stated that he learned of 8-year-old Narin Güran's disappearance upon a call from his daughter, and claimed that he did not see the young girl before the incident. Expressing that he participated in the searches, G. responded to a question regarding why his phone was turned off before Narin Güran went missing by claiming, "My phone did not have service while I was near the fields."

DELETED WHATSAPP MESSAGES AND CALLS

When asked why he deleted the WhatsApp messages and calls on his phone, S. G. replied, "When my brother Arif's ammunition was seized, I called and asked, 'Is there no one we know?' For this reason, I deleted all WhatsApp records on that date."

Stating that his phone has a voice recording feature, the uncle G. explained the deletion of voice recordings on his phone on August 23 by saying that "he deleted these records on the evening of the raid in Çarıklı." Explaining that he had TikTok and Facebook accounts registered on his phone, G. stated that he liked the vehicles and agricultural tools sold there, and sometimes watched adult-oriented content.

Describing the day before Narin's disappearance, S. G. gave the following statement:

"On August 20, we gathered as family members at my brother Erhan's house, and the matter of who would be given wedding invitations was discussed. On the day of the incident, most of the family members went to distribute invitations. However, I did not go. The phone calls made with my sons Devran and Uğurcan on the day of the incident may have been regarding the distribution of invitations."

DNA SAMPLES OF THE YOUNG GIRL FOUND IN THE CAR

Narin Güran's DNA samples were found in S. G.'s car. The suspect uncle claimed that he never had Narin ride in this vehicle, that he did not know how her DNA profile ended up in the car, and that he sometimes left the car doors open while it was in front of his house.

During the interrogation, S. G. was asked about the allegation that his vehicle's license plate recognition system (PTS) records were cut off after 14:33 on August 21, the day the young girl went missing. Claiming that he took the children of the Atasoy family, who work in his fields, to Uzunbahçe village, and later returned to the field with Ramazan Atasoy, who was in the village, Güran argued that when he went to the village, Mehmet Selim Atasoy's wife offered him water and that he played with their young daughter in the car there.

'I WILL MAKE YOU SUFFER SUCH PAIN...'

S. G. also denied the allegation that there was a feud between him and his brother Arif Güran (Narin Güran's father). Claiming that no such thing existed, G. asserted that he did not use the phrase "I will make you suffer such pain that you will never forget it for the rest of your life" toward his brother.

G. added to his statement that he did not know who kidnapped Narin and that he did not think Narin's brother had harmed the young girl.
