NATO Summit detentions: Number of detainees rises to 178, 34 released under judicial control

Of the 225 people detained ahead of the NATO Summit, a total of 103 people—including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emel Memiş, journalist Yıldız Tar, TEMA Foundation Ankara Representative Nevzat Özer, TEMA volunteers, and Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD) lawyers Semra Demir and Kürşat Bafra—had been arrested, while 26 were placed under house arrest and 6 were released following questioning by the prosecutor's office.

Today, the processing of everyone detained before the summit has concluded. 

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated that the detention orders were issued "within the scope of efforts to uncover the activities of terrorist organizations across the country" and reported that a total of 178 people have been arrested.

The following statement was issued by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office:

"Under the coordination of our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office;

Within the scope of efforts to uncover the activities of terrorist organizations across the country, 225 out of 241 suspects for whom detention orders were issued have been taken into custody. Of the detained suspects, 218 were brought to our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on 25.06.2026 and 26.06.2026, and 6 suspects were released by our office. 212 suspects were referred to the Criminal Court of Peace with a request for arrest on charges of membership in a terrorist organization. 

Following the interrogation by the Criminal Court of Peace, it was decided that 178 suspects be arrested and 34 suspects be released under judicial control measures.
