Following the May 14, 2023 elections, the Gelecek Party and the DEVA Party held talks to form a joint parliamentary group, but the group negotiations proved inconclusive.
A surprise development has occurred in the talks that had recently resumed for a short time. Merger negotiations between the two parties have been suspended.
Details regarding the process were reported on Halk TV Main News as follows:
"In the negotiations that continued throughout the summer months, the two party leaders met in recent days. No results were achieved in the talks held for the purpose of a merger. Currently, merger negotiations have been suspended. Last week, Gelecek Party leader Ahmet Davutoğlu shared the proposal they had conveyed to DEVA.
The proposal stated, "Let us merge under the roof of the Gelecek Party and let Babacan be the Chairman. Or let us merge under DEVA and let Davutoğlu be the Chairman."
The choice was left to the DEVA Party. However, the DEVA Party did not accept this. While the DEVA Party proposed forming a joint group rather than a merger, the Gelecek Party did not accept this.
We have received information that the DEVA Party is not inclined to merge under a different party's umbrella. We received the news of the suspension from Gelecek Party sources. DEVA sources will surely provide their own comments as well."
