New arrest request for Resul Emrah Şahan: Arrested for the second time

Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan, who is currently imprisoned as part of the 'urban consensus' investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) and has been removed from office with a trustee appointed in his place, has now been included in a separate "corruption" investigation also targeting the IMM. Şahan was referred to the Criminal Court of Peace with a request for his arrest on charges of "extortion by coercion" and "membership in an organization established to commit crimes."
Resul Emrah Şahan, who is imprisoned as part of the IMM "urban consensus" investigation, has been included in a "corruption" investigation for the first time.
In a statement from the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated, "Within the scope of the ongoing investigation into corruption at the IMM, Resul Emrah Şahan has been referred to the Criminal Court of Peace with a request for arrest due to strong suspicion of criminal activity regarding his commission of extortion and the transfer of benefits obtained from these actions to the organization."
The prosecution noted that the referral for arrest was made following effective remorse statements, complainant and witness testimonies, evidence submitted to the file, and examinations conducted in this direction.
Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, who also had a trustee appointed in his place, had received a release decision in the "urban consensus" case but could not be released from prison as he is also detained as part of the "Aziz İhsan Aktaş Criminal Organization" investigation.
ARRESTED FOR THE SECOND TIME
Şahan had previously given a statement as part of the IMM investigation. Şişli Mayor Şahan has been arrested for the second time.
Lawyer Hüseyin Ersöz shared the news of Şahan's second arrest on his social media account. Ersöz stated the following:
"Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan, who has been imprisoned for 6 months as part of the 'Urban Consensus Investigation,' has been arrested for the '2nd time' this time as part of the 'IMM Investigation.'"
We will appeal the arrest decision of the Istanbul 11th Criminal Court of Peace, which was issued based solely on effective remorse and complainant statements without being "supported by concrete evidence."
