New court decision regarding the CHP Istanbul Congress

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is continuing its investigation into the CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair election on the grounds of "election fraud and violation of the Law on Political Parties."

In a petition submitted to the court on August 14, 2025, it was alleged that the CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress held on October 8, 2023, was procedurally irregular. The application requested that the decisions taken at the congress be suspended as a precautionary measure, that the powers of the provincial chair, as well as the management and disciplinary board members who took office through this election, be revoked, and that the former administration or a temporary committee to be appointed by the court be assigned to duty.

In the section concerning the merits of the case, it was requested that the October 8, 2023 congress and the decisions taken there be declared null and void and cancelled, and that the entire calendar of the 39th Ordinary Grand Assembly process be invalidated.

According to a report by the pro-government newspaper Yeni Şafak, the Istanbul Civil Court of First Instance prepared an interim report upon the application. While a two-week response period was granted to the defendant party, a letter was written to the Istanbul Provincial Election Board and the Sarıyer District Election Board requesting that all documents regarding the 38th Ordinary Istanbul Provincial Congress held by the CHP on October 8, 2023, be sent. It was decided that the preliminary hearing would be held on September 21, 2025.
