New crisis in the Gülistan Doku case: Family challenges police report

The 42-page report dated March 17, 2020, prepared by the General Directorate of Security's Intelligence Department regarding Gülistan Doku, who went missing in Tunceli, has been criticized in detail by her family. The family's objections were brought to public attention by İsmail Saymaz on the Para Siyaset program.

"NOT A SUICIDE NOTE, BUT A JOKE"

The family rejected the claim of a suicide note mentioned in the report. In their statement, it was explained that the note in question was written by Gülistan Doku about a year before she went missing as a joke.

While it was noted that no names were mentioned in the note, it was stated that it only contained the phrases, "Friends, I love you, tidy up my locker, don't let them say it was very messy after I die." It was stated that this note, written on a small yellow sticky note, was intended as a joke and that all four of Doku's friends had declared this situation to the prosecutor's office.

"SHE DID NOT STAY AT THE DORMITORY ON THE LAST NIGHT"

The family also challenged the information in the report claiming that Gülistan Doku went to the dormitory one day before she went missing and told her friend Dilek Malay that she would jump into the Munzur River. The statement noted that Dilek Malay wanted to apply to the prosecutor's office to say she did not make such a statement, but her testimony was not taken.

The family also reported that on the last night before she went missing, Doku did not stay at the dormitory but at a friend's house.

PHONE SIGNAL AND SEARCH OPERATIONS DEBATE

The report included information that Gülistan Doku's phone gave its last signal on January 5, 2020, at 12:21 PM, but its location could not be determined. The family made statements questioning the course of the investigation regarding this situation.

The statement posed the questions: "If the location information was unknown, why was a search conducted in that dam for months? Why was no examination conducted on the SIM card? Why was no research conducted in this direction when GSM operators can determine locations?" Pointing out that there are many base stations in the region, it was stated that it was impossible for the location not to be determined.

The family also touched upon the information in the report that a prescription belonging to Gülistan Doku was found in the water or the lake. In this case, it was asked why hospital records were not examined and why special teams did not evaluate this finding.

CLAIM OF "FABRICATION OF AN OBJECT FALLING FROM THE BRIDGE"

Objections were also raised regarding the image in the report, which claimed that a bright object was detected falling from the bridge from a distance of 1500 meters. The family stated that no such finding exists and announced that recent investigations have determined this information to be a fabrication.

CLAIM THAT ZEYNAL'S PHONE WAS NOT EXAMINED

The family stated that although the phone of a person named Zeynal was seized, no forensic examination was conducted. The statement expressed that the deleted messages on the phone were not investigated.

Noting that there are also question marks regarding security cameras, the family stated that although there is no camera footage in the file, there are statements such as "a person walking from the bridge towards Tunceli was seen," but there is no such detection in the footage. The statement asked the question: "Who looked at non-existent footage, and how?"

LUXURY VEHICLE AND FERRY DETAIL

The report also included information that vehicles passing by at the time of the incident were identified and their occupants were questioned. The family, however, alleged that a luxury BMW vehicle driven by the governor's son passed through the same route four times, but this information was not reflected in the investigation file.

While it was stated that information regarding a girl crying on the ferry was not sufficiently evaluated, it was asked why this topic was not examined in detail, despite the fact that there are GBT (General Information Gathering) records for hundreds of people who got off the ferry.
