New decision from the SSI: Restrictions imposed on painkillers purchased from pharmacies

The Social Security Institution (SSI) has reduced the number of boxes it will cover for painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs used by millions of patients. The All Pharmacists Employers' Union (TEİS) has reacted to this decision by the SSI, which also implemented a record hike in examination co-payments last month. 

In a statement from TEİS, it was noted, "While examination fees have increased by 542 percent, citizens are holding us pharmacists accountable for the reduction in the number of boxes covered." 

Having implemented a record-level hike in examination co-payments last month, the Social Security Institution (SSI) has now taken restrictive decisions for painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs, which are among the most sold types of medication in pharmacies. 

The All Pharmacists Employers' Union (TEİS) announced in its latest statement that the SSI has reduced the number of boxes covered for painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs.

'THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET TWO BOXES OF MEDICATION'

Stating that the SSI, as it always does, has taken certain measures within itself in the name of cost-cutting but has shifted the responsibility onto pharmacists by not sharing this with the public, All Pharmacists Employers' Union President Pharmacist Nurten Saydan said, "When our patients come to our pharmacies expecting to receive 2 or more boxes of medication, they hold us accountable when the institution only covers one box."
