The family of university student Rojin Kabaiş, who was found dead in Van, has reacted to the shortcomings in the investigation, stating that no DNA or diatom analysis was performed on her clothing.

A new controversy has emerged in the investigation into the death of 21-year-old university student Rojin Kabaiş, who went missing in Van on September 27, 2024, and whose lifeless body was found on the shores of Lake Van on October 15, 2024.
The family of Kabaiş, a student in the Preschool Teaching Department at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, announced that they learned that no DNA samples were taken from the young woman's clothing and that the diatom test, used to evaluate the possibility of drowning, was not performed. Through their new lawyers, the family has demanded that these examinations be carried out.
Rojin Kabaiş's father, Nizamettin Kabaiş, stated that they do not accept the classification of his daughter's death as a "suicide" and reiterated allegations of negligence and the covering up of evidence in the investigation. Kabaiş requested that the Ministry of Justice intervene regarding the procedures he claims were left incomplete.
''We were shocked; why weren't these done? This means a cover-up. I am calling out to the Minister of Justice from here: whoever has abused their duty, the Minister of Justice must now intervene for those who have abused their duty.''
Father Kabaiş also alleged that sufficient investigation was not conducted in a timely manner regarding issues such as camera footage, vehicle movements in the area, and witness statements. Arguing that they were given conflicting information regarding the status of a camera at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, Kabaiş asked about the fate of the recordings, saying, “If it wasn't broken, where is the footage from it?”
Kabaiş stated that the camera recordings around the Mollakasım neighborhood could be important, noting that there are villas and cameras in the vicinity of the area where his daughter's body was found. He said that if these recordings had been examined in time, the incident could have been clarified.
The family stated that they will go to Ankara again to explain the shortcomings in the investigation and that they want to meet with the Minister of Justice. Nizamettin Kabaiş reacted to the delay, saying, “Things that were not done are being done two years later.”
Rojin Kabaiş was found dead on the shore of Lake Van in the Mollakasım neighborhood of Tuşba district, approximately 18 days after she went missing. Kabaiş's funeral was held in Diyarbakır on October 16, 2024.
