A new detail has emerged regarding Fatmanur Çelik and her 8-year-old daughter Hifa İkra Şengüler, who became the center of Turkey's agenda. It has been learned that Fatmanur Çelik, who came to the fore with abuse allegations and died under suspicious circumstances, had previously been convicted for throwing stones at Ayhan Şengüler, whom she had identified as her perpetrator.

It was stated that 30-year-old Fatmanur Çelik, who allegedly was abused by Ayhan Şengüler—described as an executive of the Kurana Hizmet Foundation—and was forced to marry him, had launched a struggle for justice after stating years later that her daughter was also abused by her father.

“DO NOT CALL IT SUICIDE” WORDS HAD BECOME A MAJOR TOPIC

The lifeless bodies of Fatmanur Çelik and her daughter Hifa İkra Şengüler were found on the night of February 2 on the beach in Istanbul's Zeytinburnu district. Çelik's words, “If something happens to me, do not call it suicide,” which she said before her death, resonated widely in public opinion.

In the investigation launched following the incident, the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office imposed a confidentiality order and a publication ban on the file.

At the funeral ceremony held for the mother and daughter, it was observed that the coffins were carried by women. The funerals were laid to rest at the Ihlamurkaya Cemetery in Ümraniye.

SHE WAS CONVICTED FOR THROWING STONES

According to the report by İsmail Arı from the newspaper BirGün, it has emerged that Fatmanur Çelik was previously tried and convicted for throwing stones at Ayhan Şengüler.

According to the file heard at the Istanbul Anatolian 25th Criminal Court of First Instance, the incident took place in Çekmeköy on April 13, 2022.

The file included information that Fatmanur Çelik, who was in the process of divorce at the time, had obtained a restraining order against Ayhan Şengüler.

STONES WERE CONSIDERED AS “WEAPONS”

According to the indictment, Fatmanur Çelik reacted when she saw Ayhan Şengüler nearby while she was playing with her daughter Hifa İkra. It was stated that Çelik threw the stones in her hand at Şengüler.

The indictment stated that the thrown stones were considered within the scope of “weapons.” It was alleged that the parties mutually inflicted violence and made threats against each other during the incident.

For this reason, it was noted that both parties were tried in the case in the capacity of both complainant and defendant.

THE COURT REACHED A VERDICT FOR BOTH PARTIES

In its decision dated March 7, 2023, the court sentenced Ayhan Şengüler to a judicial fine of 2,240 TL for the crime of “simple assault.” Şengüler was acquitted of the charge of “threat.”

Fatmanur Çelik was also sentenced to a judicial fine of 2,100 TL for the crime of “simple assault.” Additionally, it was stated that she was sentenced to 2 months and 24 days in prison for the crime of “threat,” and it was decided to defer the announcement of the verdict.

‘WE HAD GONE TO PLAY’

Fatmanur Çelik described what she experienced on the day of the incident as follows:

“I went with my three-year-old daughter Hifa İkra to the vacant lot we always go to, which is a 10-minute walk from our house, to get some fresh air. My daughter and I constantly go there and play; my daughter likes to collect the small stones there. When I went to that lot, I saw that my husband Ayhan was also there. I didn't understand what Ayhan was doing there; he constantly follows me, I guess he followed me again and came to that lot. I got angry when I saw Ayhan there; Ayhan approached us and tried to pet my daughter, I didn't allow it. I had the stones that my daughter and I had collected in my hand. When Ayhan tried to pet my daughter, I threw the stones in my hand at Ayhan and he came at me. Afterwards, we got into a fight; Ayhan hit me, I hit Ayhan. I had previously participated in a YouTube program because Ayhan had threatened me and raped me.

Ayhan threatened me, saying, ‘You will remove the programs, you will withdraw your complaint, I will have you fired from the job you started, I will kill you.’ My daughter was in my arms; while we were fighting, he also hit my daughter, and my daughter started to cry. I started screaming and threatened Ayhan, saying, ‘If you cross my path again, I will kill you, stop following me.’ I had a breakdown at that moment; I hit Ayhan with my hand and pulled his ear. When I started screaming, two people I didn't know came and helped and separated us. I pressed the KADES button out of the fear I felt at that moment. Police teams arrived; I was taken to the hospital first to get a medical report for assault, and then to your office. I am a complainant and I am filing a complaint against Ayhan Şengüler due to this incident I experienced.”
