A tragic traffic accident that occurred at night near the Tırkaz neighborhood of Denizli has plunged all of Turkey into mourning. A passenger bus belonging to Pamukkale Turizm, traveling from İzmir to Antalya, lost control and crashed into the barriers. A fire broke out on the bus due to the impact, resulting in a tragedy.

Immediately after the accident, numerous health, AFAD, UMKE, police, fire, and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the region. With the intervention of the fire department, the fire was extinguished within approximately 30 minutes. Initial examinations by medical teams determined that bus driver Mustafa Fevzi Merdün, as well as Civan Şen, his 9-month-old son Eyüp Miraç Şen, Hayriye Arıkan, Merve Erik, Zehra Eyiol, Kyrgyzstan citizen Güli Tayboya, and Fatma Kartal, lost their lives at the scene.

It was learned that the father, Civan Şen, who was among those who lost their lives, had covered his young son, Eyüp Miraç, with his own body in an attempt to protect him during the fire.

Some of the passengers injured in the accident were transferred to various hospitals in the region. According to the information received, 17 of the 33 injured were discharged after their treatment, while 16 people are reported to be continuing their treatment in the hospital, with two in critical condition.

Forensic medical processes have been initiated to identify those who lost their lives due to the fire caused by the accident. DNA analysis will be conducted using blood samples provided by relatives arriving from İzmir and Antalya to the Forensic Medicine Institute, and it is stated that the procedures will be completed within approximately one week. Once identified, the bodies will be handed over to their families.

CRITICAL STATEMENTS FROM THE INJURED

In the investigation regarding the accident, the statements of the injured passengers provided important details about the development of the event. While it was noted that many passengers were sleeping before the accident, it was determined that the driver had pulled the bus to the side of the highway about 20 minutes earlier to check for a vehicle malfunction. It was announced that the bus set off again after the check and the tragedy occurred shortly thereafter.

The work of the crime scene investigation teams and the judicial investigation to fully determine the cause of the accident are ongoing. The cause of the bus fire and its possible connection to the malfunction have become the focus of the investigation.
