New development in AKP 'drug crisis' resignation: Acting appointee also resigns

Following the resignation of AKP Elazığ Provincial Chair Şerafettin Yıldırım, who stepped down after footage of his son using drugs surfaced, the entire provincial administration, including the person appointed as his acting replacement, has resigned from their posts.

As the resignation remaining at an individual level failed to curb the controversy, the entire provincial executive committee, including İbrahim Sencer Selmanoğlu, who had been appointed as the Acting Provincial Chair to replace Yıldırım, submitted their resignations.

PREFERENCE POLL PROCESS HAS BEGUN

According to a report in Sözcü, the AKP Headquarters has pressed the button to determine a new name for the Elazığ Provincial Presidency.

In this context, AKP Deputy Organization Chair and Adıyaman MP Mustafa Alkayış and Headquarters Organization Presidency Elazığ Provincial Coordinator Cengiz Demirkaya were sent to Elazığ.

The executive committee, excluding the Provincial Disciplinary Board, has been completely dissolved. A preference poll has been initiated to determine the new provincial chair to be appointed. The poll was attended by provincial, district, youth, and women's branches, as well as provincial general assembly and municipal council members.

Each group cast votes through 5-person delegations. The voting was conducted based on functional units rather than individual names. This allows for a clear analysis of which group leaned toward which candidate.

ALL EYES ON AKP HEADQUARTERS

Following all these developments, eyes are now turned to the name that the AKP Headquarters will designate as the Elazığ Provincial Chair. While a few names have begun to emerge in party corridors, the final decision is expected to come from Ankara in the coming days.
