New development in the Çağlayan terror attack investigation

As part of the investigation into the terror attack at the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan, 48 of the suspects referred to the duty magistrate with a request for arrest were detained: 14 for 'attempting to overthrow the constitutional order and qualified intentional homicide,' 33 for 'membership in an armed terrorist organization,' and one for 'aiding the organization.' The other 48 suspects were released under judicial control conditions.

In a post on his social media account X, Minister Tunç made a statement regarding the suspects detained as part of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the attempted attack carried out by members of a terrorist organization on the Istanbul Courthouse on February 6, 2024.

In his statement, Tunç noted that 96 suspects had been detained, stating, "48 suspects have been arrested for the crimes of attempting to overthrow the constitutional order and qualified intentional homicide (14), membership in an armed terrorist organization (33), and aiding the organization (1). Judicial control decisions have been issued for 48 suspects."

THOSE MAKING PROVOCATIVE POSTS ON SOCIAL MEDIA WERE ALSO ARRESTED

Within the scope of the investigation conducted into individuals identified as having made provocative posts on their social media accounts following the terror attack, 5 out of 6 detained suspects were arrested.

THE TERRORIST'S SIBLING IN THE COURTROOM WAS ALSO ARRESTED

Pınar Birkoç, one of the terrorists who carried out the attack and was killed, had a sibling present as a spectator at the hearing in the 13th High Criminal Court during the incident. This individual was also arrested for 'attempting to overthrow the constitutional order' after being assessed as having links to the act.

The total number of suspects arrested under both investigations has reached 54.
