New development in the major disaster in Samsun: Gas station manager detained

An important development has occurred in the investigation into the landslide disaster that took place at a gas station in the Canik district of Samsun, which resulted in the deaths of a father and his two daughters.

The Samsun Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which is conducting the investigation, has assigned a Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor and a Public Prosecutor to the case and is following the process meticulously.

GAS STATION MANAGER DETAINED

Following the instructions of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a detention order was issued for K.Y., the manager responsible for the gas station where the landslide occurred. K.Y. was apprehended by security forces at his address and taken to the police station to provide a statement. The judicial investigation into the incident continues in all its aspects.

FATHER AND TWO DAUGHTERS LOST THEIR LIVES

The autopsy procedures for the father, 35-year-old Adem Kaya, and his children, 7-year-old Ayla Kaya and 5-year-old Açelya Lina Kaya, who lost their lives in the tragic incident, have been completed at the Samsun Forensic Medicine Group Presidency. It was learned that the funeral services for the family members will be held today at the time of the afternoon prayer (ikindi) in the Akçaykaracalı neighborhood of the Terme district.

It was reported that the mother, 31-year-old Çiğdem Kaya, who was injured in the landslide, is continuing her treatment at the Samsun Training and Research Hospital. Authorities stated that the mother's health condition is being closely monitored.

HOW DID THE DISASTER BEGIN?

The incident occurred last night around 23:00 at a car wash park next to a shopping center on the Samsun-Ordu highway. While the family was washing their vehicle, a landslide suddenly occurred in the area, and massive rock fragments fell. Of the 4-member family trapped under the pile of rocks and soil, only the mother, Çiğdem Kaya, could be rescued alive.
