In the case concerning the murder of Narin Güran in Diyarbakır, the appeals filed following the sentences given to the defendants have been sent to the Diyarbakır Regional Court of Justice.
The investigation into the murder of Narin Güran, who went missing on August 21, 2024, in the Tavşantepe neighborhood of the central Bağlar district and whose body was found in the Eğertutmaz Stream on September 8, 2024, was completed by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
In the verdict hearing on December 28, 2024, the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court sentenced the detained defendants, mother Yüksel, brother Enes, and uncle Salim Güran, to aggravated life imprisonment each for the crime of "intentional killing of a child in complicity," while Nevzat Bahtiyar was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence of a crime." The 944-page reasoned decision was announced on January 23, 2025.
Appeals were filed with the Diyarbakır Regional Court of Justice by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the Ministry of Family and Social Services, the Diyarbakır Bar Association, and father Arif Güran, requesting a review of the defendants' sentences. The court sent the file to the 1st Criminal Chamber of the Diyarbakır Regional Court of Justice to evaluate the applications.
In the appeals, the Ministry of Family and Social Services, the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and the Diyarbakır Bar Association requested that Nevzat Bahtiyar's 4-year-and-6-month prison sentence be increased and that the crime be classified as "intentional killing of a child in complicity."
Lawyers for the detained defendant Nevzat Bahtiyar requested that the appeals filed against their client be rejected and that his sentence be overturned. Arif Güran's lawyer requested that the defendant be punished for the crime of "intentional killing of a child in complicity."
Lawyers for the defendants, brother Enes, mother Yüksel, and uncle Salim Güran, requested the cancellation of the sentences given for the crime of "intentional killing of a child in complicity" and the release of their clients. Uncle Salim Güran's lawyer also requested that Nevzat Bahtiyar be sentenced for the crimes of "intentional killing of a child, sexual abuse, and threatening liberty."
