New development in the Sinan Ateş murder: Instigator spoke with police chief
It has emerged that Tolgahan Demirbaş, a former executive at the Ülkü Ocakları (Grey Wolves) Headquarters who is identified as the instigator of the Sinan Ateş murder, spoke 5 times with one of the detained suspects, former Ankara Police Department Murder Bureau Chief Mustafa Ensar Aykal, one day before the murder, and twice more half an hour and two hours after the killing, and that these calls have been included in the investigation file.

Former Ülkü Ocakları President Sinan Ateş lost his life in an armed attack carried out in the Çukurambar neighborhood of Ankara's Çankaya district on December 30, 2022. Following the case filed by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against 22 detained suspects regarding the Sinan Ateş murder, details are emerging from the investigation file concerning 17 other suspects whose files were separated.
It was determined that suspect Tolgahan Demirbaş had 5 conversations with Mustafa Ensar Aykal on December 29, 2022, one day before the murder, and that he held FaceTime calls with him half an hour and approximately two hours after the murder was committed on December 30.
In his statement, Demirbaş claimed that the reason for these calls was related to a vehicle with an "MHP" license plate and the issue of obtaining a licensed firearm for Ülkü Ocakları Deputy President Emre Yüksel.

The statement given by Tolgahan Demirbaş to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is as follows:
Tolgahan Demirbaş: I remember speaking with him one day prior for two reasons. The first was a request for help from me regarding a friend's vehicle with an "MHP" plate, specifically to ensure the plate did not become available after the sale and that he could get it back. The second issue is this: My friend Emre Yüksel and two other people we both know, one named Erkan whose surname I cannot recall, were trying to obtain licensed firearms from the Ankara Governorship. I asked him to help due to the workload at the Police Department.
Prosecutor: Why did you feel the need to make these calls via FaceTime?
Tolgahan Demirbaş: It is a habit in our community. I generally call my friends and close circle via FaceTime.
Prosecutor: The calls you made immediately after the murder are striking. What could you have been talking about with Mustafa Ensar Aykal on that same day? A murder was committed at 13:30 on that day. How did the murder bureau chief find the time to make such a call to you amidst all that rush and intensity? It is a very striking and abnormal situation, what do you say?
Tolgahan Demirbaş: Mr. Prosecutor, I do not see any abnormality here. Since the deceased was the former Ülkü Ocakları President and I am someone from the nationalist community who has served, he called me on the day of the incident. We spoke once on the day of the incident. He asked, 'Are you aware of the incident in Çukurambar?' It lasted a maximum of 10 seconds. I asked, 'I don't know, what happened?' He said, 'Okay, talk to you later, goodbye.' We hung up.
While suspect Mustafa Ensar Aykal faces a prison sentence of 15 to 20 years for "aiding in premeditated murder," he is also requested to be sentenced to 3 to 6 years for unlawfully obtaining the victim's personal information by abusing the authority granted by his public office.
