The Istanbul 2nd Administrative Court has issued a stay of execution regarding the deputy mayor election held at Üsküdar Municipality. Following the decision, the Istanbul Governor's Office made a statement regarding who will serve as acting mayor until a new election is held.

According to the Governor's Office statement, the court stayed the execution of the deputy mayor election conducted with the Üsküdar Municipal Assembly's decision dated August 5, 2026, and numbered 76. It was stated that the decision was taken on the grounds that the implementation of the action could cause irreparable damage, in accordance with Article 27 of Law No. 2577.

The statement indicated that, pursuant to Article 45 of the Municipal Law No. 5393, the duties will be carried out by the first deputy speaker of the Üsküdar District Municipal Assembly until a new deputy mayor is elected. It was noted that in the absence of the first deputy speaker, the duties would be performed by the second deputy speaker on an acting basis.

According to information on the Üsküdar Municipality website, the 1st Deputy Speaker of the Assembly is Ali Aral of the CHP. The 2nd Deputy Speaker of the Assembly is Sibel Tan Çetinkaya of the CHP, who was elected deputy mayor in the election for which the execution was stayed.

Following the arrest of Üsküdar Mayor Sinem Dedetaş, an election had been held in the assembly for the deputy mayor position. Following the court's stay of execution, the process will be clarified once a new election is held.
