Şaban Vatan, the father of 11-year-old Rabia Naz, who died under suspicious circumstances in the Eynesil district of Giresun in April 2018, had surrendered to the Espiye Open Prison on July 14 due to a 1-year-and-8-month prison sentence handed down as a result of a defamation lawsuit filed by Canikli.

Having spent 38 days in prison, Şaban Vatan announced his release today in a post on social media. In his post, Vatan stated, "Greetings everyone, I have just been released."

Vatan, who continues his fight for justice for his daughter, was sentenced to 1 year and 8 months in prison in 2020 on charges of 'defamation' and 'sharing personal data' in the lawsuit filed by Canikli, and had entered prison on July 14. He was released today (August 21).
