New development regarding the mother-in-law who ran off with her daughter's fiancé

In the Develi district of Kayseri, a woman who ran off with her disabled daughter's fiancé has been sentenced to 3 years, 7 months, and 15 days in prison for the crimes of "threat" and "assault," while the prospective son-in-law was sentenced to 3 years and 3 months in prison for the same crimes.

The hearing held at the Develi 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance was attended by the complainants D.Ş. (25) and her father T.Ş. (52), as well as the lawyers for both sides. The defendants, Güldane Ş. (46) and Cuma D. (21), participated in the hearing from the prison where they are being held via the Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS).

In their defense, the defendants Güldane Ş. and Cuma D. admitted to having a romantic relationship but denied the criminal charges.

In her statement, the victim D.Ş. said that she became engaged to the defendant Cuma D. last year. Claiming that Cuma D. had beaten and threatened her constantly afterward, D.Ş. stated that the defendant's mother, Güldane Ş., had not subjected her to violence.

Stating that she had no information regarding the theft allegations, D.Ş. noted that she was filing a complaint against the defendant Cuma D., but not against her mother.

The complainant T.Ş. alleged that the two defendants, who ran off together, stole 14 full gold coins, 1 bracelet, 19,500 dollars, and 35,000 liras from his home.

Claiming that the total value of these items was 1 million 226 thousand 900 liras, T.Ş. stated that his losses had not been compensated and that he was filing a complaint against the defendants.

The prosecutor requested in their closing statement that both defendants be punished for the crimes specified in the indictment.

When asked for their final words by the presiding judge, the defendants claimed they were innocent and requested their acquittal and release.

The court judge sentenced the defendant Güldane Ş. to 2 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of "threat by more than one person" and 13 months and 15 days for the crime of "qualified simple assault," and sentenced the defendant Cuma D. to 2 years and 6 months for "threat by more than one person" and 9 months for "qualified simple assault."

The court acquitted both defendants of the "theft" charge due to lack of evidence and ruled for the continuation of their detention.

THE INCIDENT

After the images of the mother, Güldane Ş., and the prospective son-in-law, Cuma D., who ran off with her disabled daughter D.Ş.'s fiancé, were reflected on social media and television channels, and following the allegations and complaints made, the suspects were detained in Istanbul and subsequently arrested. The case file was sent to the Develi Chief Public Prosecutor's Office following a decision of lack of jurisdiction.
