Following the inauguration of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, the IMM Inspection Board identified approximately 416 thousand dollars in public loss during its examinations of projects dating before 2019.

The loss in question stemmed from the "Çekmeköy Rahmi Demir Recreation Area" and "Pendik Life Grove" projects. However, it was learned that the Istanbul Governor's Office did not grant permission for an investigation into those responsible for these projects.

HERE ARE THE ALLEGATIONS FOR WHICH INVESTIGATION PERMISSION WAS DENIED

It was stated that after becoming IMM Mayor, İmamoğlu instructed the Inspection Board to examine the 2016 tender for the "Construction of New Green Areas Across Istanbul" and revealed that significant public loss had occurred in these projects.

In the findings, it was revealed that there was a total loss of 2 million 494 thousand 011 TL in two of the projects covering 39 parks and landscaping works, an amount that corresponded to approximately 416 thousand dollars based on the exchange rate at the time.

INVESTIGATION REQUESTS REJECTED AGAIN

Regarding the loss identified by the Inspection Board, the IMM requested both administrative and judicial investigations into the officials of the period thought to be responsible for the public loss.

However, the Istanbul Governor's Office rejected these requests on April 22, 2020, and did not grant permission for an investigation into the individuals in question.

The IMM filed a lawsuit at the Istanbul 35th Civil Court of First Instance to recover the public loss. An expert report was prepared on the subject on June 25, 2024, and it was stated that the collection process is ongoing. It was expressed that the judicial process regarding the public loss will be followed.
