New era in traffic: Penalties are increasing, rules are tightening!
With a new legislative proposal to be submitted to Parliament, penalties for drivers using mobile phones in traffic and those who leave the scene of an accident without permission are being increased.

A new legislative proposal prepared by AKP deputies envisions increasing penalties for drivers who violate traffic rules. The proposal, which is expected to be submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey this week, aims to make significant changes to the Highway Traffic Law.
Within the scope of the proposal, administrative fines for drivers who speed, run red lights, and change lanes incorrectly will be increased. In particular, it is planned to impose a prison sentence of 1 to 3 years for drivers who leave the scene of an accident involving death or injury without permission. In addition, the driver's licenses of these individuals will be suspended for 2 years.
HEAVY FINES FOR MOBILE PHONE USE
Fines for drivers using mobile phones or communication devices in traffic are also being increased significantly. A fine of 5 thousand TL will be applied for the first violation, and 10 thousand TL for the second. If this rule is violated for a third time within one year, drivers will be fined 20 thousand TL each time, and their licenses will be suspended for 30 days.
A fine of 40 thousand TL will be imposed on those driving without a license, 20 thousand TL on those driving despite their license being temporarily suspended, and 200 thousand TL on those driving despite their license having been revoked.
Furthermore, the use of tachographs in vehicles carrying cargo and passengers, and taximeters in taxis, will be made mandatory. These regulations aim to increase traffic safety and encourage compliance with the rules.
