Former Ülkü Ocakları President Sinan Ateş lost his life as a result of an armed attack he was subjected to in the Çukurambar neighborhood of Ankara's Çankaya district on December 30, 2022.

In the trial continuing at the Ankara 32nd High Criminal Court following the Ateş murder, the gunman Eray Özyağcı presented a defense claiming that he had fired at Ateş's feet and that the bullet that struck Ateş in the head had come from the weapons of Selman Bozkurt and Ahmet Keçik, who were with Ateş. The organizer of the murder, Doğukan Çep, made a similar defense. Following these claims, the Ankara 32nd High Criminal Court decided to have the footage of the moment of the murder re-examined by an expert report.

According to the report by Alican Uludağ from DW, Forensic Informatics Expert O.A. submitted his report dated September 17 to the court. The report stated that Eray Özyağcı fired at Sinan Ateş multiple times and that it was observed that no one other than Özyağcı fired at Ateş. The report, which stated that Özyağcı fired at Selman Bozkurt and wounded him on his left side, also emphasized that Özyağcı fired toward Ahmet Keçik. The report noted that Keçik took a pistol from the ground near the fallen Sinan Ateş and fired toward the direction where Özyağcı had fled.

Waited for 35 minutes, occupied with his phone

In the report, while the moments preceding the murder were also evaluated, it was stated that before the armed attack, Eray Özyağcı passed in front of a minibus with "Erzincan Mandıra" written on it and waited on the edge of the sidewalk for approximately 35 minutes between 13:00 and 13:33, occasionally looking at his phone. The report, which stated that Özyağcı generally looked toward 1437th Street—the opposite direction from which Sinan Ateş and his two friends arrived—and kept watch, noted that Özyağcı finished waiting at 13:33, walked toward 1437th Street, and hid in front of the light commercial vehicle with "Erzincan Mandıra" written on it.

Meanwhile, the trial of the 12 detained defendants regarding the murder of Ateş will continue on September 30 at the Sincan Prison Campus by the Ankara 32nd High Criminal Court.
