New footage emerges from ship disaster: This is how the ship took on water!

New footage has emerged regarding the capsizing of a passenger ship that was performing the Kyrenia-Taşucu voyage off the coast of Kyrenia in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

In the footage, which is said to show the moments the ship began taking on water following the accident, the panic and fear experienced by the passengers are striking.

“TELL THE CAPTAIN TO TURN BACK”

In the footage, it can be seen that the passengers realized the situation as the ship began to take on water and called for the captain to turn back.

In the dialogue reflected in the recordings, one passenger is heard saying,

“Tell the captain to turn back. There are 200 people here... I didn’t find my life on the street!”

While the footage reveals the scale of the panic on board just before the accident, it also highlights the concern passengers felt regarding their safety.

267 PEOPLE WERE ON BOARD

It was reported that there were a total of 267 people on board, including passengers and crew.

Following the accident, 3 Coast Guard boats and 3 civilian vessels were dispatched to the area, while ambulance and police teams were also directed to the scene. It was announced that search and rescue operations are ongoing.

TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel stated that the efforts are being closely monitored through the Crisis Center that was established.

Üstel announced that 237 of the 267 people on board have been rescued, 8 people have lost their lives, and 23 people are still missing.

It was reported that search and rescue operations are continuing uninterrupted with all available resources mobilized to reach the 23 missing individuals.
