New operation targeting IMM: Detention warrants issued for 15 people

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an operation regarding the leakage of personal data through the "Istanbul Senin" application. Detention warrants have been issued for 15 individuals. The Prosecutor's Office's statement notably included the phrase "Operation-2."

A new operation has been conducted targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM). The investigation, carried out by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, covers the leakage of personal data and location information of 4.7 million users to two foreign countries through the mobile application named "Istanbul Senin." Furthermore, it is alleged that the information and location data of 3.7 million users were offered for sale on the "dark web."

BALLOT BOX DATA ALSO ALLEGEDLY LEAKED

According to the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office statement, ballot box data of 11 million people was processed through a sub-application called "IMM HANEM" and illegally leaked outside the program. The transfer of said data to unauthorized persons has led to serious security breaches.

DETENTION WARRANTS FOR 15 PEOPLE

The Prosecutor's Office has issued detention warrants for 15 people as part of the operation. Among the suspects are 13 individuals accused of being members of the "Ekrem İmamoğlu Profit-Oriented Criminal Organization" and 2 people accused of "issuing fake invoices." In the operation, the name of Murat Gülibrahimoğlu, who is alleged to be an organization manager, stands out.

It was stated that the individuals for whom detention warrants were issued are accused of unlawfully obtaining personal data. Additionally, violations of the Tax Procedure Law and membership in a criminal organization are also included in the scope of the investigation.

"ESPIONAGE" ACCUSATION

Turkey began the day with operations. A police raid was conducted on TELE1 TV, and the channel's Editor-in-Chief Merdan Yanardağ was detained on charges of "espionage."

STATEMENT FROM THE CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE

In the statement made by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office under the heading 'Operation-2', the following expressions were included:

"Within the scope of the investigation conducted by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Organized Crime Investigation Bureau regarding the activities and actions of the Ekrem İMAMOĞLU Profit-Oriented Criminal Organization;

“Regarding the detection of the leakage of personal data and location information of 4.7 million application users to two different foreign countries through the application named “ISTANBUL SENIN”, the offering of personal data and location information of 3.7 million application users for sale on the “darkweb”, and the processing of ballot box data of 11 million of our citizens into the sub-application named “IMM HANEM” located within the same application and its leakage outside the program; as of 06:00 today, simultaneous apprehension, detention, search, and seizure operations have been carried out against a total of *(15) suspects, consisting of managers in the programs and other personnel in 6 separate companies, including IMM affiliate companies related to the subject, 13 suspects identified as having connections with the aforementioned organization managers, and 2 suspects understood to have participated in the acts of issuing fake invoices to the companies of the fugitive organization manager Murat GÜLİBRAHİMOĞLU, on charges of unlawfully obtaining personal data, violating the Tax Procedure Law, and being a member of the Ekrem İmamoğlu Profit-Oriented Criminal Organization, and all suspects have been detained."
