It has been alleged that Turkish officials are holding talks with the circle of the new US President Donald Trump to return to the F-35 fighter jet program and lift sanctions.
According to a report by Bloomberg, Turkey has conveyed to the US that it could accept the "limited use without disposal" of the S-400 air defense system it purchased from Russia.
In return for this proposal, Turkey requested to rejoin the F-35 program. However, it was stated that the US side is waiting for Trump to take office and has not yet provided a response to Turkey.
WILL THE S-400 DISPUTE BE RESOLVED?
The report noted that if the S-400 dispute is resolved, defense industry cooperation between the two countries could increase significantly. While emphasizing that Turkey was one of the original partners of the F-35 program, it was stated that the country invested 1.4 billion dollars in this project and that 6 undelivered F-35A aircraft are being kept in storage in the US.
This critical process between the US and Turkey could open the door to a new era in relations between the two countries within the framework of the NATO alliance. However, it appears that final decisions on the S-400 and F-35 issue depend on the willingness of the parties to make concessions.
