New sanctions on the way for 'lane-weavers' in traffic

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya announced that new sanctions are coming for those who weave through traffic. Making a statement on his X account, Yerlikaya said, "Our legislative work to increase administrative sanctions, revoke driver's licenses, and ban vehicles from traffic in order to prevent this violation and the accidents it causes is nearing completion."

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya shared a post on his social media account regarding the inspections carried out by police and gendarmerie traffic teams.

Reporting that 2 million 948 thousand 764 vehicles were inspected by police and gendarmerie traffic teams between February 6-13, Yerlikaya stated that action was taken against 42 drivers who used unauthorized flashing lights on their vehicles.

Yerlikaya shared the information, "A total of 462 thousand 352 drivers were processed along with other procedures, including 119 thousand 400 for speeding, 21 thousand 955 for failing to have periodic inspections, 23 thousand 341 for not using seat belts, 11 thousand 477 for driving without a license, and 6 thousand 660 for lacking mandatory financial liability insurance."

Reporting that 12 thousand 919 drivers were processed by traffic teams between January 1 and February 14 for the violation defined as "lane-weaving," which involves changing lanes multiple times in a dangerous manner, Yerlikaya stated that new sanctions are coming, saying, "Our legislative work to increase administrative sanctions, revoke driver's licenses, and ban vehicles from traffic in order to prevent this violation and the accidents it causes is nearing completion."

Weaving through traffic endangers not only your own life but also the lives of other drivers."
