New statement from AKP regarding street animal regulation

AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik spoke about the draft law prepared by his party, which envisions the euthanasia (killing) of street animals. 

In response to a question from host Mehmet Akif Ersoy, "There is a very serious sensitivity regarding the issue of euthanizing street animals. Is this on your agenda?", Çelik noted that the work on measures to be taken regarding street animals is being carried out by Deputy Group Chairman Bahadır Yenişehirlioğlu, who stated in a message he published the other day that the work was complete, but that they have not yet held a broad-based meeting on the completed draft.

Çelik continued as follows:

"I would be extremely saddened if this were perceived as if we were preparing to take a life in any way. But the other day, I saw a picture like this: A father who was hit by a vehicle while running away because street animals were chasing his child, and on the other side, an association official saying that no harm should come to the lives of street animals. Now, there is nothing to be said in the face of that father's pain. On the other hand, of course, human life is precious, but humans share this planet with many living things, and their lives are also precious. We are trying to find the most correct thing to do regarding this. Our job is to keep lives alive, not to destroy them. Therefore, we will make our assessment when we see what kind of action plan has emerged in that draft."
