A new witness has provided testimony in the investigation into the death of 19-year-old Rojin Kabaiş, whose lifeless body was found on the shores of Lake Van.

19-year-old Rojin, a student at the Van Yüzüncü Yıl University Faculty of Education, Department of Child Development, went missing on September 27, 2024, and was found dead on October 15 in the Mollakasım neighborhood, located on the shore of Lake Van. In the case file, where efforts are underway to solve the mystery, a report prepared by the Council of Forensic Medicine's Biological Specialization Department showed that DNA traces belonging to two unidentified men were found on the young woman's body.
Following the public disclosure of this report, the testimony of a person living in Manisa who applied to the prosecutor's office has moved the investigation to a different point.
WITNESS DESCRIBES WHAT HAPPENED THAT EVENING
Stating that they were in Van for an event with their spouse on the day of the incident, the witness relayed to the prosecutor's office a conversation they encountered while returning to the guesthouse on the evening of September 27, when Rojin went missing.
According to the report by GazeteDetay, the witness stated in their testimony that they saw a young girl, whom they resembled to Rojin Kabaiş, together with a man, and described those moments with the following words:
"A man grabbed the arm of the girl I resembled to Rojin. He said, 'Let's go, we're leaving.' The girl asked, 'Does my father know?' The male individual replied, 'Yes, he does.'"
THE "SECOND PERSON" DETAIL IN THE TESTIMONY DREW ATTENTION
The most important detail provided by the witness was the claim of a "second person," which coincides with the two different DNA findings in the Forensic Medicine report. The witness stated that they noticed a vehicle parked across the road and that another young man was sitting inside the vehicle, saying, "They got into that vehicle with the girl. I don't know where they went."
"I BECAME SUSPICIOUS WHEN I SAW THE DNA REPORT"
When asked why they provided testimony about a year after the incident, the witness said that the forensic report that appeared in the press prompted them to take action. The witness said, "When I read in the news that the DNA of two people was found on Rojin, the two men I saw that night came to my mind, and I felt the need to testify out of suspicion."
It was learned that the prosecutor's office is expected to expand the investigation in line with the witness's account and initiate new examinations to identify the described individuals and the vehicle.
