A newborn baby girl was found inside a trash container in Konya, wrapped in a pillowcase.

The incident occurred in the morning hours on Etem Street in the Kalfalar neighborhood of Konya's Meram district.

Residents living on the street heard a baby crying from inside the trash container when they went out to take out the trash.

Upon the report of an abandoned baby to the 112 Emergency Call Center, medical and police teams were dispatched to the scene.

The baby, who was handed over to the medical personnel arriving at the scene, was taken to Konya City Hospital by ambulance after receiving initial intervention.

It was determined that the baby, who has been placed under treatment, was born in the early morning hours.

Police teams have launched an investigation to apprehend those who abandoned the baby.

Ramazan Mankır, one of the neighborhood residents, said, "My tenant went out to take out the trash. When he arrived at the trash, he heard a baby's cry. He informed my wife about the situation. My wife came but couldn't get the baby out, so she called a neighbor. The woman who came took the child out of the trash. We notified the police, then an ambulance arrived and took her to the hospital. Many people are looking for children and cannot find any, and these people find one and throw it in the trash."

Salime Şimşek, another neighborhood resident, stated, "In the morning, a tenant of one of our neighbors came to take out the trash and saw a child in the trash. She informed us. My tenant also looked, saw it was a child, and took the child and wrapped her in a blanket. We notified 112, and the medical teams took her away."
