News of interest to all vehicle owners: Refund decision for card surcharge

The Consumer Arbitration Committee has found TÜVTÜRK's collection of a credit card commission fee for a vehicle inspection payment to be contrary to regulations. A decision was made for the amount to be refunded.

According to a report by TRT, Ali Kaya had his vehicle inspected at the TÜVTÜRK Niksar Branch on November 4, 2025. Kaya, who wanted to pay the inspection fee with a credit card, was charged a commission fee of 65.63 TL.

Stating that charging a commission was not legal, Kaya took the matter to the Consumer Arbitration Committee after the fee was collected mandatorily despite his objection.

The commission practice was found to be contrary to regulations. The Arbitration Committee, which reviewed the application, conducted an assessment within the scope of the Law on the Protection of Consumers No. 6502 and Article 17 of the Credit Cards Law.

The review emphasized that member merchants cannot demand a commission or additional service fee from consumers for payments made by credit card. The committee ruled that the commission charged due to the payment made by credit card was contrary to regulations and unanimously decided that the 65.63 TL collected must be refunded to the consumer by TÜVTÜRK.
